The Schools Registration Board was established under the Education Act 1994 (the Act) to ensure that non-government schools comply with standards for education approved by the Minister for Education. The Act requires that all non-government schools operating in Tasmania must be registered by the Schools Registration Board.

 

Expression of Interest – Chair, Schools Registration Board

The Minister for Education and Training is seeking expressions of interest from individuals who wish to be considered for appointment to the position of Chair of the Schools Registration Board.

The Schools Registration Board is an independent statutory body with its composition and powers defined under legislation. Its primary function is to assess and determine applications for the registration of new non-government schools, and the renewal of registration of existing non-government schools.

The Chair will also work closely with the Education Registrar to implement the new Education Act 2016 as it relates to the workings of the Board.

Desirable requirements include demonstrated knowledge and skills in at least one of the following: education, corporate governance, law or financial management.

As the Chair is responsible for the operations and oversight of the Board, experience in corporate governance or other board experience would be highly favourable.
